REASONS I LOVE SMALL WEDDINGS & ELOPEMENTS

I understand this is a GIANT decision for some — and most likely a challenging one. Perhaps the decision to downsize was not your choice but rather a result of the impact of COVID-19. While I still hold a deep appreciation for grand wedding celebrations and completely support anyone who chooses them, I would like to highlight a few reasons why I find small, intimate wedding days so remarkably special.

I. IT'S AN INTIMATE EXPERIENCE.

There is something so incredibly special about having a small group of people witness your BIG day — or even just THE TWO YOU professing your heartfelt vows and celebrating together! In an intimate setting, there is ample space to be fully present, engaged, and focused. With fewer distractions, you can be more in tune throughout the day and thoroughly enjoy every moment!

II. REDUCE STRESS.

In my opinion, NO wedding day should be stressful, regardless of size — but on larger days with more things to manage, it may be challenging to avoid the occasional stressful moment here and there. On smaller days, people tend to have a more flexible approach to their plans — easily adjusting schedules if needed.

III. THIS IS AN EXPERIENCE

In my opinion, eloping is not just about the wedding; it’s also about the experience — and the same applies to intimate weddings. You have NUMEROUS options to organize your day with fewer limitations. Your wedding day can be more focused on the journey rather than sticking to a rigid schedule. For instance, if you want to make a spontaneous stop on the way to the wedding ceremony to get matching tattoos — then, by all means, get inked. If you’re on cloud nine after saying your vows and, on a whim, want to bungee jump — the sky’s the limit. If you want to camp in a secluded spot to rekindle a romantic memory the night before your nuptials — then boom, chicka wah wah! Today, you call all the shots! You can shape it into whatever you want — turn it into a memorable experience.

IV. INCREDIBLE DESTINATIONS.

When planning larger weddings, there may be some constraints on available locations. However, when it comes to elopements and smaller weddings, the floodgates have opened with endless possibilities! There are some UNBELIEVABLE locations perfectly suited for elopements that may not be as feasible for larger weddings. You could proclaim your vows on a beautiful secluded beach, on the peak of a mountain, on a stunning sailboat, on a dramatic cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea, or next to an old historic sugar mill. You could travel across the globe via airplane or luxury cruise liner to our tropical paradise in the U.S. Virgin Islands — where you don’t even need a passport. Smaller weddings and elopements present opportunities to explore incredible destinations!

V. LAST MINUTE PLANNING.

This is a noteworthy one. Especially with everything we’ve been through with COVID-19 — eleventh-hour planning seems to have become a way of life. Planning for smaller weddings and elopements can be done at the last minute with fewer issues. I’ve seen numerous elopements and “micro-weddings” booked just a month or two in advance because of the constantly changing environment created by the pandemic. And… guess what? It’s okay. On a lighter day, such as a weekday, it’s easier to accomplish tasks with a tighter schedule. This means there will be fewer crowds, more personal space, and a higher chance that your photographer will also be available last minute. Planning for a last-minute event is much easier because there are fewer details and moving pieces involved.
